I was born and raised in Burlington, Massachusetts. I am currently a senior at UMass Dartmouth studying graphic design. With a family heavily involved in art and design, I was always a creative child, so it was no surprise to my family that I decided to make a career out of it.
When I was a sophomore in high school, I was enrolled in a photography class with my favorite professor, Mr. Mistler. Although I enjoyed the class, I quickly learned that photography was not my forte. But Mr. Mistler saw something in my work that no one else did and believed that I had potential. He told me I should consider taking a graphic design class the following year. At that time I had no idea what graphic design even was, but I trusted my professor and I took his advice. My junior year of high school I enrolled in my first graphic design class and immediately fell in love with it. At a fast pace, I was able to learn the tools I needed to grow and I thought to myself, “this is what I need to do”. From there I decided to major in graphic design at UMass Dartmouth.
My professor gave me the confidence to believe that I am capable of anything I set my mind to. I am now interested in both print and web design and can see a future in becoming a web designer. After college, I plan to extend my education and learn front-end web development to pursue this dream. Without Mr. Mistler’s encouragement, I may not have ever considered going into this field.
