Emily McCoy is an Illustration Major who lives in Newport New Hampshire. She was born in Bridgeport Connecticut and spent her childhood in Stratford until her family moved to New Hampshire at the beginning of junior year in high school. Coming from an artistic family which included a grandmother who was an award winning painter and a mother who is a historic wallpaper artist working with museum houses, family trips included visits to art museums and historical sites. In addition, she has an older sister who graduated from Mass Art with a degree in illustration as well. Emily and her sister were always drawing from a young age. Children's books with beautiful illustrations and comic books would inspire the two of them to draw for hours. Emily won first place in her division from K through 6th grade annually in the PTA sponsored art shows and was praised by teachers and classmates. She did work at the Booth Memorial Park on the mural project in Stratford as a public service. As she grew older her interest in comic book art increased and she attended Cartoon Center of Vermont workshops to improve her skills. During high school she took a number of freelance commission from both teachers and students for her artwork. She also attended classes at the AVA in Lebanon NH while preparing her portfolio to apply for acceptance to UMass Dartmouth as an Illustration Major.
