Jillian Chan

Jillian was born in Wakefield, Massachusetts. She is graduating in May from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a BFA in Graphic Design.

The first time Jillian designed a project she really loved was in her sophomore year of college. She was challenged to design a small book using only typography based on a quote by Robert Bringhurst. Part of the quote read, “Sometimes [letters] rise and dance in the margins and aisles.” She fell in love with the phrase ‘dance in the margins’ and she began to design the spreads based on dance. The final product was a bright little book with type that danced across the pages. Her book was chosen out of all the books designed by her classmates to be screenprinted, and it is still one of her favorite pieces in her portfolio.

Jillian has been challenged with many other design projects since then. In the near future, she hopes to use design to solve problems, create community, and make positive change in the world around her.
